2027 Honda Civic Type R Adds More Features

Honda has announced the 2027 Civic Type R, and we like the quality-of-life changes we see! First, let’s take a look at what stays the same. A 2.0-liter-turbo-four remains the sole engine option, making 315 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. It puts all of that power down exclusively through the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission and a helical limited-slip differential. On the suspension front, adaptive dampers come standard. They’ve been improved, too, reducing bouncing and impact harshness in +R mode for better handling and stability. Honda also enhanced the auto rev-matching system, which now delivers faster engine responses to smooth out downshifts. Additionally, better brake operation comes courtesy of an added yoke spring to the brake pedal. This suppresses play in the link, resulting in a more direct feel.

On the outside, the 2027 Honda Civic Type R sees some small design tweaks to improve performance. This includes a revised front fascia with a deeper front splitter for increased downforce and a larger grille opening. Airflow velocity also receives improvements through reduced turbulence, increasing engine cooling for better sustained performance during track driving. Honda also added a new exterior color: Meteorite Gray Metallic.

Inside, the Civic Type R features subtle design tweaks for 2027. These include a new seat perforation design and pattern, a diamond-pattern mesh dash trim panel with a black surround, black knobs, and plenty of dark grey accents. Heated front seats and the post-collision braking system are now standard, too. Additionally, the infotainment system now has Google Built-In with Gemini AI assistant functionality and Alexa built-in. Furthermore, the standard Honda Sensing suite now works better across varying road conditions and when detecting motorcycles and bicyclists.

Pricing for the 2027 Civic Type R starts at $49,990, an increase of $1,300 versus last year.
