2027 Subaru Forester Wilderness Hybrid Adds Efficiency

The Subaru Forester lineup expands for 2027 with the arrival of the Wilderness Hybrid. Debuting alongside the all-electric Getaway, the automaker finally adds a highly requested model. The highlight here is the hybrid powertrain. It combines a 2.5-liter boxer four-cylinder with two electric motors and a lithium-ion battery. The total system output checks in at 194 hp. Despite being marketed as having a Lineartronic CVT, this hybrid system features a series-parallel setup with a planetary gear set instead of a typical belt and pulley configuration.

Just like the gas model, the 2027 Subaru Forester Wilderness Hybrid features 9.3 inches of ground clearance. It also comes with dual-mode X-Mode, and an upgraded suspension as standard equipment. Yokohama Geolandar all-terrain tires also come standard shod on 17-inch alloy wheels. Subaru also opted to retain its Symmetrical AWD setup with a mechanical connection between the front and rear axles instead of using an independent electric motor like its EVs have.

In terms of design, the Forester Wilderness Hybrid has the same distinct design as its gas counterpart. It features better approach, breakover, and departure angles, at 23.5 inches, 20.6 inches, and 25.5 inches respectively. Raised ladder-style roof rails have a static load capacity of 800 pounds. Opening the power liftgate reveals 27.5 cubic feet of cargo capacity with all seats up and 69 cubic feet with the rear seats folded.

Subaru’s infotainment system has an 11.6-inch touchscreen in the Forester Wilderness Hybrid. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto also come standard. Additionally, a 12.3-inch digital cluster, an 11-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system, and the EyeSight driver assistance suite are included. For added ease of cleaning, Wilderness models have StarTex weather-resistant upholstery and all-weather mats.

The electrified Forester Wilderness arrives in late 2026 with details coming closer to its on-sale date.
